Important facts you should consider before buying a new laser printer or fax machine.

1. Consult an expert. Afx Laser Printer Services knows laser printers. We've been in business since 1991. There is more to choosing a printer than the intial price of the machine.

2. The primary reason to upgrade is printing speed (ie., pages per minute) and reduced operating cost. If your current printer meets your needs and print speed is not an issue, a repair may be the more economical choice than a replacement.

3. Lower equipment cost vs. higher cost. Many low cost printers carry high operating cost because the cost per printed page may be as much as 40-50% higher than that of a moderately higher priced alternative.

4. Look at this example:

A. You print 10,000 pages per month, or 120,000 pages per year.

B. Your $400.00 printer uses a $170.00 toner with a low page yield of 6,000 pages. The cost per page (cpp) is 2.83 cents or approximately $3,400 per year.

C. An $800.00 printer using a $200.00 toner yielding 12,000 pages has a lower ccp of 1.66 cents and an annual operating cost of only $2,000.

D. Allowing for the $400.00 difference in the price of the printer, the more expense $800 printer would actually save your company $1,000 during the first year of service.

E. This same example applies whether your business requires a $800 printer or a $2,800 printer. The cost is in the supplies, not in the equipment.

Generally speaking, if you paid less than $400.00 for your ailing printer a repair may not be feasible, but if you paid more than $400.00 for your printer, you might want to consider contacting Afx / American Imaging for an evaluation as to the best course of action.
